A collection of hand-thrown ceramic tea bowls, crafted in small batches at our South Wales ceramics studio. Made from terracotta clay and high-fired for strength, each bowl is finished with a layered slip decoration, creating a surface rich in movement, texture, and character.
Thrown on the potter’s wheel, each piece is left to rest until the leather-hard stage, where the decorative slip is applied by hand. This process captures a moment in time - every mark unique.
Inspired by traditional Japanese tea bowls (chawan) but grounded in a contemporary studio practice, these bowls are designed to be held, used, and enjoyed daily. Perfect for matcha, loose leaf tea, or simply slowing down and enjoying a quiet moment.
Balancing function with form, these handmade tea bowls bring a tactile, grounded quality to your daily rituals. An object to be used and appreciated over time.

However we understand, that sometimes a product may not be what you expected it to be or that you changed your mind. In that unlikely event, we invite you to review the following terms related to returning a product to Matthew Jones Ceramics.
Due to the nature of our items being handmade and the clay and glaze being natural materials, the photos that are shown to display our products will look slightly different one you receive. Please be aware that we will not issue partial refunds due to the item not looking exactly the same as the images. This is the beauty of handmade, each piece is completely unique.
Returns
- You have 30 calendar days to return an item from the date you received it.
- To be eligible for a return, your item must be unused and in the same condition that you received it.
- Your item must be in the original Matthew Jones Ceramics packaging.
- Your item needs to have the receipt or proof of purchase.
Refunds
- Once we receive your item, we will inspect it and notify you that we have received your returned item. We will immediately notify you on the status of your refund after inspecting the item.
- If your return is approved, we will initiate a refund to your credit card (or original method of payment).
- You will receive the credit within a certain amount of days, depending on your card issuer's policies.
- Items on sale are nonrefundable.
Shipping
- You will be responsible for paying for your own shipping costs for returning your item.
- You will be responsible for organising the shipping needed to return the item.
- The return shipping address will be supplied to if you would like to return an item.
- If the item breaks during the shipping process no refund will be issued.
